who and what do you read for political and cultural analysis

and news? I'm always looking for more.

Here are my indispensables:

Lewis Lapham, editor emeritus of Harpers and now editor of Lapham's Quarterly. Love, love, love Lewis. The Quarterly bills itself as a magazine of history and ideas. The fall issue is on death. Not really news but lots of connections.

I still read Harpers. I like Garret Keizer's musings. Love the Index.

Amy Davidson and John Cassidy in the New Yorker are must reads for me. Here's a fantastic piece by the latter on Cruz

From Dr. Seuss to the Bataan Death March: Ted Cruz Does His Stuff

Conor Friedersdorf in the Atlantic. Also James Fallows and Ta-Nehisi Coates

The Nation

Mother Jones

Charles Pierce of course- in Esquire
