Obama Ridicules GOP Fear Mongering Of Obamacare

Obama Ridicules GOP Fear Mongering Of Obamacare

President Barack Obama ridiculed Republican fear mongering of his signature health care law on Thursday, five days before its insurance exchanges are set to open, pointing out that many things lawmakers said about Obamacare never actually came true.

"One congressman said that Obamacare is the most dangerous piece of legislation ever passed," Obama said in Largo, Md. "Ever, in the history of America, this is the most dangerous piece of legislation. Providing -- creating a marketplace so people can buy group insurance plan, the most dangerous ever."

"You had a state representative somewhere say that it's as destructive to personal and individual liberty as the Fugitive Slave Act," he added. "Think about that. Affordable health care is worse than a law that lets slave owners get their runaway slaves back. I mean, these are quotes. I'm not making this stuff up."

"And here's one more that I've heard. I like this one. We have to, and I'm quoting here, we have to repeal this failure before it literally kills women, kills children, kills senior citizens," an incredulous Obama said. "Now, I have to say, that one was from six months ago. I just want to point out we still have women, we still have children, we still have senior citizens. All this would be funny if it wasn't so crazy."

finds something to like about the ACA and passes it along to friends and family. Maybe there will be positive anecdotal stories that trump what the media is saying. That happened with Social Security and Medicare.

In my view, the President dropped the ball big time about the health care law. The adminmistration should've done a lot more to educate the public on what will actually happen. They let the RW nutbags run wild with lies and scare tactics.

The law was passed, signed and upheld as constitutional. No need to do a push for explaining it until we are dealing with the biggest impact--getting people signed up for policies via exchanges.

There is sheer panic on the right as they know they're about to get found out when the public realizes that the ACA is a pretty good law and a big step in the right direction. All the boogiemen in the world that they create isn't going to matter once people are seeing the benefits of the law in their own lives. Or if you're like me and already have healthcare, nothing will change.

about what he signed into law, instead of having lived in fear for the past couple of years. The Baptist churches in rural North Carolina have (especially) seniors scared out of their wits....they think they're going to lose their medicare!!!! Pulpit politics keeps North Carolinians voting republican since the tea party moved in.

Obama is a day late and a dollar short....he should have been nipping the disinformation campaign in the butt a LONG time ago.

and the results would be the same. Corporate media, enough said. Same crap with SSI and Medicare and that was without air communications such as the internet, et al.,

Conservatives were totally against SSI and Medicare and misinformation flowed. Ronnie R claimed that Medicare would destroy America and many Americans were against it including, but not limited, to seniors that vote GOP. Now majority of the seniors love it. Heck many GOPers think Medicare is not a Government run healthcare program.

SSI and Medicare/Medicaid (Cali-Cal here in California) were considered socialism and in many circles still are and thats why the current GOPs want to dismantle both and they are doing their damnest to do so. Obamacare regardless how much positive information was put out there was over shadowed and is still being over shadowed by the media, the over 435 hate radio, the trolling from GOPers on every effing progressive internet site, and on and on. Obamacare through all the hateful lies and obstruction will survive.

Obamacare has flaws but so did SSI and Medicare (still so), but it will work.

K & R, and thanks ProSense!

That those seniors (and others) scared out of their wits by what the preacher told them would have paid anything this President said? Especially when the other part of the preacher’s sermon had this President as the prince of darkness?

Fighting directly. Naming names.
And at exactly the right time, i think, contrary to much punditry today.
I bet 89% of those who will benefit the most are only just now "tuning in".
The uninsured know something substantively different is about to happen to their situation in 5 days and the Prez is standing right at the door to explain. Which he needs to do. Over and over. Only the president can overcome the RW noise empire which has no direct corollary on our side.
He needed, more than anything, to call lies, lies. Hysteria, hysteria. And bad faith, bad faith.
Chuck Todd sure won't do it.
