Kansas Christians Sue To Stop Science In Schools

Kansas Christians Sue To Stop Science In Schools

bigscaryideas.com.

Generally, I don’t care what people choose to believe. After all, nobody can really know the truth about what is out there. However, fervent religious beliefs often make people do some truly reprehensible things. Such is the case with a most curious pair of lawsuits that are being filed by various Christian groups in Kansas.

The groups have filed two lawsuits against the state Board of Education in Kansas, which recently decided to implement a set of science standards in all public schools across the state. The groups are angry because they feel that their beliefs should be given some consideration in science classes. One group, the Pacific Justice Institute, says that the teaching of science in all schools would “create a hostile learning environment for those of faith.”

This group also alleges something that has never been true of any science curriculum, which is that it will “promote religious beliefs that are inconsistent with the theistic religious beliefs of plaintiffs, thereby depriving them of the right to be free from government that favors one religious view over another.”

So, in other words, they want creationism and whatever other nonsense that is in the bible to be taught on equal footing with tested, peer-reviewed science. Right. These folks must really want their kids to be graduate from high school knowing nothing.

The second group, Citizens for Objective Public Education (COPE, Inc.), filed its lawsuit on Sept. 26th, accused that the state’s new standards “will have the effect of causing Kansas public schools to establish and endorse a non-theistic religious worldview” ..........

That Atheism is a kind of Religion in it's own right, and that NOT teaching Creationism is SPECIFICALLY endorsing the "religion" of Atheism.

I posted on another thread on this story, my first question to the first witness for the Plaintiff would be "Does Religion require God?"
Followed IMMEDIATELY by "Thank you Your Honor, the Defense rests."

Because science has been blowing holes into their nonsensical fairytales for a long time now.

But rather than trying to bury their heads in the sand, why don't they grasp the opportunity to go deeper with their understanding of God, as opposed to going through so much effort just to pigeonhole hole the Almighty into an old book. Seems kind of disingenuous to "seek God" and then turn your back on facts and discoveries and the very process that affords us the best chance of not being duped by our own desires and preconceptions.

But that, of course, is not how these conservatives think. They are clinging to old ideas and practices, no matter how ridiculous. One might say that God, through science, is making them look the fools they are.

Nobody is asking Christians to throw out the baby with the bathwater. But it's becoming clear that they are mistaking the bathwater for the baby.

Look what happened when the telescope was discovered. Their belief system had to be adjusted to fit reality.

The problem they face is that reality is a threat to beliefs. Therefore, they have to deny reality in order to maintain their meta-physical delusions.

I embrace science as an awesome method to learn about reality. If my beliefs get a bruising in the process, so be it. Beliefs are nothing more than that. I think you said it well!

and theory(non-layman's version), Religion is backed up by faith, which is a belief system that is, by definition, unsupported by evidence. That is why religion isn't a threat, it doesn't have evidence supporting it, it is, at best, speculation, unsupported notions and beliefs.

Don't treat the two as if they are equal, they are not.

(or, EXACTLY as God INTENDED IT TO BE).

Your God isn't bothered by the Math of Particle Physics, because YOUR God isn't Scientifically Illiterate (which, in most cases, is because YOU'RE not Scientifically Illiterate--all of our Gods are Projections to one extent or another, remember).

So your argument falls flat (earth). If the audio and telecommunications equipment had all evolved from the Motorola DynaTAC 8000X, then you might have something.

Of course, it all makes about as much sense as this;

If your God isn't exactly All-Knowing enough to handle particle physics or basic Bio-chemistry, then your problem isn't WITH particle physics or Bio-chemistry, its with the definition of ALL-KNOWING. In admitting such, you acknowledge your worship of a Deity that isn't QUITE All-Knowing ENOUGH, and therefore, doesn't fit the Christian definition of "God".
Which is Blasphemy, as "you shall have NO OTHER GODS BEFORE ME", and, therefore, is an offense punishable by Death.

Kansas still executes criminals, don't they?

fuck these people, I hope the lawyers for the defense not only defeat them in court, but I hope they make an example of them while doing it.
