In the past few days, I have seen several social media posts by trusted Progressives/Democrats (both friends and blogs) advertising the October 11-13 'Truckers to Shut Down America' event.
This effort is largely sponsored/supported by those who align themselves with the Tea Party political ideology...
The protest itself was initiated by Jacksonville, FL resident Zeeda Andrews, who has absolutely no ties to the trucking industry whatsoever.
Recent Facebook comments by Andrews have included several racially charged comments regarding the impeachment of President Obama, the removal of Eric Holder from office, and "Fu*k Allah."
Look around the internet, and most of the organizing for this is being done on Tea Party affiliates forums.
Progressives have no use in supporting this whatsoever.
There are a handful of key issues which have legitimate reason to be addressed by the federal government, however injecting their racism and impeachment solutions makes this a toxic blend of idiocy.
Please consider reminding folks that this event is less about the truckin industry, and more about racism and xenophobia.
Just a thought, thanks for reading...

(13,547 posts)to shut down for something like that. Commercial drivers employed by trucking companies can't. Look for that to amount to nothing.

(14,910 posts)I found that not only are the points you listed appropriate I also found that the ability to simply drive an un-permitted, empty 18-wheeler in Washington, D.C. is simply illegal.
Its akin to the open carey Kokesh protest that amounted to nothing this past summer...

(13,547 posts)are permitted to go. There would also be some drivers that might like to go, but their truck wouldn't be licensed properly, requiring a trip permit that they have to buy. Also, if they aren't familiar with the area, it's not a lot of fun to take a truck like that into a congested cluster like that. Lots of reasons for even the most deranged bagger trucker to not go.
