I think we will give up something we didn't want to, but will keep AFC intact.

(75,480 posts)will be a shutdown if the Repugs continue to tie the bill to the ACA.

(9,933 posts)Honestly just keeping the sequester intact is painful enough.
I think republicans might shut down the government, hoping a few days or weeks will make dems cave to their cruel destructive wishes, but they won't f over the world by not raising the debt ceiling.

(1,399 posts)Only scenario I can see is if the House passed a CR with only the Vitter amendment in place, that may be tempting enough for the Senate to cave (knowing full well it'd just be a dog and pony show and that they'd reinstate their own coverage before Jan 1; even Repubs wouldn't really want that deal, it'd just be a way for them to save face).
Anything less that would stall the rollout I don't see happening.

(9,033 posts)We have already seen that the Republicans won't take "yes" for an answer, despite being offered human sacrifices on a grotesque scale.
I think that the best* possible outcome is they dig in their heels, keep the shutdown going until default looms--all the while being pummeled by us and the big money people in their own party--and then (I hope) President Obama will pull the plug while citing the 14th Amendment, section 4:
The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned.
Then maybe the coalition of money and tea partiers and libertarians and the self-righteous will shatter and we can start to rebuild a working government.
*it would be devastating for many Americans, but I don't know how else to deal with insanity. Negotiation and reason has been tried, elections have been tried, but they are impervious. Maybe they have to be treated like the proverbial mule that was beaten over the head to get its attention. Certainly nothing else has worked.

Dems by default takes the House. And will get things done.

(9,033 posts)We wouldn't get away with it but I like it. Institutionalizing them for being a danger to others and themselves...what better way than to drive a stack into the heart of Raygun's party?

Seems like with the right attornies arguing in an emergency SC case, that should work. Wonder who the Tparty would use to defend them...
That's what this is all about!! Paying our damned bills in this country and debts overseas...
Time, time, time...that's the problem, but it should be done at some point. We can't go thru this every couple months..

(3,539 posts)the republicans will once again hold the country hostage. Only the next time they will have different and more damaging demands.
Even in the sad state we are in, think of what we still have to loose.
If abolishing something, be it ACA, Medicare or SS, will profit republican owners, they will demand it!

(10,336 posts)The daggers come out, Boehner's leadership is challenged from the far right (Boehner used to be the far right, but now he's a RINO...but, I digress). It's gonna be a bumpy ride. Who ever knew that the full faith and credit of the United States would be challenged by sitting members of Congress? Wow.

(10,751 posts)...I would much prefer a temporary shutdown than caving to ANY demands from these deranged lunatics.
This is not a negotiation, it is extortion. It really is that simple. The media is only too happy to let these fools claim that Obama "won't sit down at the table with us and negotiate", but it's a lie. He already did that, massively, when the legislation was being drafted. Now it's been enacted into law, it's been declared lawful by the Supreme Court, and they are trying to kill it by other means. A pox on them.

(2,949 posts)But the President scares me a bit. He has been known for his willingness to cut a deal. And whatever he gives the rwnjs will be held against him by all for sure. the repugs will use it as a campaign aid and the progressives will scream about him throwing us under the bus.
