This now leaves one path to averting a government shutdown: House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, would have to waive the white flag of surrender and have the House vote on a clean government funding bill with the no Obamacare strings attached. Make no mistake: there are plenty of votes to pass such a bill because it would be supported by virtually all Democrats and a large group of Republicans who believe a shutdown would be bad for the country and bad for their party. But Boehner would be defying his party’s hard-core conservatives if he moves forward with a clean bill and they would accuse him of betrayal.”

1. It all boils down to one thing

Will Boehner do what is right for the COUNTRY, or will he cave in to the "CRAZY" side of his party?

I keep reading that it's the "conservative" side of the party, but in reality it's the far, far extreme radical side of the party that is the problem. Shutting down the government is not a conservative thing to do, it will cost billions. What is happening is Boehner is scared of losing his job, hell I heard he already has a tea party challenger that will run against him in his primary, so why cave to the loons? Simple the man is NOT a leader, never was and never will be. His party will take the heat for this shutdown, Cruz will gain more power with the tea party loons, and the country will suffer.

These people, republicans, need to be removed from office, and that should be the number one goal of every one on the left come 2014! Keeping these idiots in office is NOT an option.

And that will spell the end of the Republican-Teabagger alliance and create a party split.

4. I believe Boehner is himself a teabagger and one of the crazies. His speeches and press

cpnference threats sound to me like teabaggers' statements. The republican party is now controlled entirely by teabaggers, except for a few in the US Senate.

5. Boehner is history as Speaker and He KNOWS IT....

With Boehner's attempt to span the differences within the Repub Party by bowing to asinine tea partiers' demands he has relinquished any hopes that he would be reelected Speaker of the House if Repubs hold onto their majority.

Cruz is openly working in opposition to Boehner, and face it .... you cannot reason with CRAZY.

The only legacy Boehner can secure at this point is to take the unpopular position within the Repub Party and act to avoid a government shutdown. Question is will he take that option or go down with the the Repub ship?
