The Republicans want to see the USPS fail, so they can break it up and give it piecemeal to their friends, to privatize.

They must be stopped.

People pay more for a 15 minute phone call, why not a stamp. I know they just raised it a few pennies more, but go for the dollar. It's WELL worth it. Hand delivered mail is worth a dollar. Not many buy stamps anymore, and they could have cheaper stamps for the poor if they spend a lot on stamps. I bought a book months ago, and just used another one today. If making the stamp a dollar can keep Saturday deliveries and better pay, and possibly more jobs, why not. I know this deficit is fake, by why not make them strong. We NEED them.

They don't need to charge through the nose for shipping. They could raise that by pennies over the years like they do now, but a dollar stamp IMO would be good.

you've missed the point here. That being that the TPs have insisted on this retirement set up and I do mean set up to force the USPS to fail specifically in order to make it such a burden that privatization would be the only practical - in their pea brainz - answer. They were bought by corporate fascists to legislate everything that belongs in the public trust into private hands so that the people end up with no power over their own lives. And bit by bit, that is what they are systematically trying to do, it's why they get so many perks and so much electoral funding... thanks to the first victory in this freak show - the citizens united case.

Raising the price of postage will only discourage people from using their services. i live in a very rural place and the USPS is our main outlet for many things, and we don't even have delivery services, everyone here has a PO Box. I use USPS services for things I might use FedEx or UPS for but I us the USPS on purpose including buying money orders for paying bills, even to my credit union, and then mail them 1st class on purpose. You know it costs the same postage to send a letter whether it goes across the continent or across the street.

The best thing to do is get the TP out of our government before they destroy our country... and right now they have a good head start on that.
