Today, we have a similar situation, except that its a band of extremist House Republicans who are deliberately sabotaging Americas economy and damaging our national security all in hopes of gaining leverage on unrelated issues.
...
The stakes rise as we approach the debt limit and the risk of default which the Treasury Department notes could have an impact like that of the 2008 financial crisis and has the potential to be catastrophic. Astonishingly, Republican hard-liners see that potential catastrophe as a source of bargaining power in a game of extortion: We dont want anything to happen to this fine American economy as we approach the debt limit, so youd better meet our demands.
...
In this situation, it strikes a false note for us as journalists to cover the crisis simply by quoting each side as blaming the other. Thats a false equivalency.

(2,543 posts)The current attempt by the dirtbag faction of the shit pile party is nothing less than an attempt to over throw the constitutional authority of the President because they hate his being black, that and the fact that any success on the part of a Blackman is seen as a direct threat to their white supremacy especially if it is a black President of the United States. This is a race war without guns, so far. The republicraps are quite willing to wreck the country to further their racist ideology, never forget that their heroes are Jesse Helms, George Wallace and Ronald Raygun.
For example, if George Bush had killed Osama Bin Laden the buttuglians would have declared Washington D.C. A state and named it Bushland. This is nothing more than the "KKK goes to Washington".

This shut down is costing $300 million per day ... I never want to hear a republican talk about the
debt again.
