Many of us have been trying to shut down nuclear power plants, and the proliferation of nuclear power plants, for decades.

The threat posed by Fukushima is precisely why corporations must be strictly regulated and totally eliminated from having any influence whatsoever over politicians and governments. Corporate power and greed inevitably leads to a deadly threat to every living thing on our planet, and the very structure of our planet herself.

Will they even have time to remove those rods before another devastating earthquake hits? How could this situation possibly get any worse?

Imagine if they were midway into removal of the materials in Unit 4.

However this may mean the whole thing will be swamped.

Roughly 1/100th the quake much farther away... a wave that isn't any higher than the difference between high and low tide (far below the sea wall)... and this is terrifying?

Don't believe all the lies about how precarious a task it is to move almost 3-year old fuel from a pool of water. All the nonsense about fuel bursting into flames (or even exploding) upon contact with air or going critical if dropped... was never remotely possible.
