Not scant few years ago, I can remember my right leaning friends telling me that kids going around asking for a hand out gives the wrong message. I don't have a link for this, I *lived* it. I remember right leaning rellies of my friends berating me for this very purpose. Like *I* was responsible, single handedly, for this "socialist" practice, ***and*** I *owed* them some sort of debt for it.
This happened as surely as it's Friday at nearing 6pm around Washington DC.
Now the very same people are feigning outrage that they ever did such a thing.
I've said it be fore, and I'll say it again: FUUUUUUUUUCK the teabaggers.

(52,113 posts)our view of truth is something verifiable by trusted sources. some biases exist in our sources, but we usually consider them small and we gloss over them.
republicans do the same thing, or think they're doing the same thing, but we see their choice of trusted sources as entirely untrustworthy, transparently biased. they look to their party leaders for the party line and accept it as the considered truth, just as we do when highly credentialed professors and such opine on an issue.
if rush tells them to fight a war on trick-or-treaters, they'll do it.
if rush tells them they never fought that war, they'll accept that as fact as well.
and in fairness, we would do the same if that highly-credentialed professor came announced an error in analysis or made a similar reversal of result.
all of which means, be careful who you consider expert and from where you gather your facts.

Easy-peasy nice and squeezy.
