Just to be clear I have no problem with hunting for food

My dad was born in 1920. He had 13 younger siblings. When my grandfather went to jail (often) for bootlegging, dad quit the third grade and went to work. He also hunted Southern Indiana for game and fished to put food on the table.

And yes I have a rifle. I've owned it since 1975.

Flip side. I live in an area that has a population of deer out of control. Hunters eliminated all the natural predators. Having a deer jump through the picture window of a home here next to Fontenelle Forest happens regularly. Great damage to the home and usually deadly for the deer from the wounds. Similar to the many bird strikes our windows have every day, even with markers in place to warn the birds away.

It is so bad they have had to close a city park on fall weekends to allow bow hunters to thin the population. it is just down the road from us.

The white-tailed deer lives in wooded areas. In some areas, deer overpopulation is a problem. Gray wolves and mountain lions used to be predators of the white-tailed deer and helped keep their population under control. But because of hunting and human development, there are not very many wolves and mountain lions left in some parts of North America.

The fact this is Nebraska's first ever lion hunt should tell you how rare they are here. And that is why I feel in remote areas where they are not a danger to humans, they should be left alone.

1. I am against hunting for any reason,

and I would not kill an animal unless I was threatened with bodily harm, such as an attack by a predator like a bear, mountain lion, coyote, etc.

2. The ONLY lion "hunting" I support is with rubber bullets, to teach them to fear and avoid man

once again - for their own safety.

3. Unfortunately in Nebraska...

They tend to be shot on sight. Zoo's are full up etc.is part of the excuse.
