Its logical to assume Obama retained them because he approved of the job they did. If Obama didn't approve of their work, or felt they were going rogue, then he had every opportunity to replace them. Sorry, after 4+ years I think Obama now owns it.

They actually warped reality in DC to the point where WMDs were conjured out of not just thin air but that far more rarefied substance within Bush's Brain and Cheney's Heart.

Why wouldn't the nation's leading advocate of Hope and Change keep on such a successful executive in order to keep a firm hand on the wheel of the NSA?

You could at least get the adjective right. And the answer would be "he's serving the country". He's an active-duty military officer (a four star general), not a political appointee. His predecessor served as director of the NSA for most of Bush's first term, and was appointed under the Clinton administration.
