Sometimes, mother really doesn't know best.
The mom of a seven-year old boy from Virginia dressed him up for Halloween night in a Ku Klux Klan costume.
Jessica Black, from Craigsville, says her little boy, Jackson who is seven actually asked if he could also dress as a member of the white supremacist group, so she decided to make him the costume.
Ms Black says it's a 'family tradition'.
Are you KKKidding? A mother from Virginia allowed her seven-year old son to dress up like a Klansman from the Ku Klux Klan because it was 'family tradition' when she was growing up.
It's all good in the hood: Jessica Brown says her brother wore the costume when he was in kindergarten and in 7th grade too.

Some family tradition!!!! What the hell is wrong with this woman? Doesn't she realize how offensive that costume is to the majority of people???????? She must be a Cuccinelli supporter.

(30,247 posts)or she's pretending not to know how racist that costume is to most Americans. She does mention that her brother wore one at a similar age. I wonder what kind of reaction her son got while he went trick or treating.

(16,399 posts)'It's suppose to be white with white. Black with black. Man with woman and all of that. That's what the KKK stands for. The KKK every year, raises money to donate to the St. Jude's,' she protested.
I have no doubt there might be an ignorant stupid soul or two who'd think this was ok and in good taste and not be a racist Klan member themselves, but she knows what she's doing. She's using the one day she thinks she can get away with it to promote her bullshit hatred on her kid.

(37,573 posts)there are, I think, three types of costumes
hero costumes - cowboy, Captain America, Spiderman, princess, catwoman (at least in Marvel comics, I think catwoman was a heroine), etc. Point being to dress in something that the child admires, looks up to, aspires to be like.
villain costumes - pirate, wicked witch, vampire, zombie, George W. Bush. The point being to dress up as something evil and scary.
neutral - hobo, clown, ghost. Okay, the last two are scary, but not necessarily evil, or admirable.
How does a KKK costume not fit into the second category? Because they were/are real? So were/are pirates? And heck a local school even has a pirate as their friggin school mascot, like that is something admirable. Oh, what a wonderful person Edward Lowe was http://listverse.com/2007/09/04/top-10-infamous-pirates/
One trouble is, that often lots of people think villains are cool.

(16,161 posts)when they measure the hood size do they go with pencil point, pinhead, needlebrain or is there an entirely different way?
I was thinking she probably cut the eyeholes while the kid was wearing the pillowcase. How else is one to find where it fits?
Beacool
(30,247 posts)As for the eye holes, yeah, she probably did have him try it on for size.

(15,139 posts)Virginia need to name their kids after prominent Confederate generals? Jackson, as in Stonewall? I bring this up because former Virginia governor and senator George "macaca" Allen named his only son Forrest, as in KKK founder Nathan Bedford Forrest. Coincidence? Probably not.
Beacool

(15,139 posts)Robert Charles Tyler was the last Confederate general slain in battle. Richard Brooke Garnett from Virginia was a Confederate general killed at Gettysburg.
I was in George Allen's high school graduating class in Southern California. He was the only kid who drove around with Confederate flag stickers on his car and a bat he called his n____r knocker. He also wore a stars and bars lapel pin in his senior photo. However, he is best remembered by classmates for being busted for spray painting racist graffiti on the school walls. He was a real piece of work even then. So yes, the name Forrest definitely reflects his sensibilities - or lack thereof.

(17,199 posts)Dressed in KKK attire, lynching President Obama:
The latest in totally irresponsible, totally racist Halloween costumes has come to light in Hyndman, Pennsylvania, where this photo of Pennsylvania men dressing up as the Ku Klux Klan and lynching President Barack Obama was posted on Facebook.
Shared with the Baltimore Sun by (redacted) HERE, this picture sparked instant debate about the racism of the gesture, because some people felt that others should see the humour of a bunch of men dressing up like the KKK and pretending to lynch President Obama, Americas first and current black president. One Hyndman local had this to say about peoples reaction to the photo:
