November 3, 1969: PBS is Founded

On this day in 1969, PBS was created to produce educational content to inform and inspire the diversity reflected in the American audience.

As a private, nonprofit corporation with over 350 member stations, nearly 90% of all U.S. households watch PBS on TV annually. PBS has also been named the most trustworthy institution among nationally known organizations, for ten consecutive years.

Happy Founders Day!

See how “America’s largest classroom” serves communities nationwide through PBS values.
