Jeb Bush outlined his plan at the ALEC meeting. Every state is under the thumb apparently.

(2,795 posts)Not only do they not care about kids, they don't care about education. A good education makes an informed, intelligent electorate. If you have informed, intelligent voters, then the oligarchs can't purchase candidates that can scare, manipulate and make paranoid those voters.
They want the big pile of taxpayer money for their wealthy friends who will privatize as much of the public school system as they can and waste billions of dollars that will be given to their rich friends to sell and create more computer programs to "teach" our kids instead of teachers teaching them.
I don't know how many of you have kids in the public school system now, but I have 3 and in the past 5 years it has gotten horrible. Though we have a BOE that is as tea baggy as they come and quite the good foot soldiers for every organization that wants to destroy the public school system. Our election is tomorrow and even republicans are fighting to get them unseated. The "reforms" they have put in place are very close to taking our public education system totally down. Teachers have left in droves, they've lowered the graduation requirements and now graduates are having a hard time getting accepted to their colleges of choice, they've shortened the class time but added plenty of new computer programs for our kids to "learn" and totally cut off ties with the teachers union. Refuse to negotiate and act as if it doesn't even exist.
And guess who, just last week, donated money to the 4 republican BOE candidates here in my county? JEB BUSH.

(2,795 posts)This county used to be one of the highest performing districts not only in the state but country, till the conservatives got voted in and promptly began dismantling and weakening the public schools system.

(2,795 posts)Here is an article where the usual cast of characters (Koch Bros) are meddling in local electionshttp://www.politico.com/story/2013/11/koch-group-unions-battle-over-colorado-schools-race-99252.html Then Jeb Bush donating money. Financial support from the GOP. The Milton Freidman Foundation for school choice has been very supportive of the current BOE.
I hope all the grassroots efforts will pay off tomorrow. Anyone except for the rabidist of the conservatives want the "reforms" as they are called. Everyone else sees the destruction it has caused and will continue to cause.

"For profit" is a really bad way to run an education system. I don't want to convert that into an education industry.
Haven't we had enough of this bullshit?

(4,695 posts)profiteers. Parents do not know it but they will have no control or say about the treatment and teaching of their children once they give their education voucher to a business.
