What happened to the government shutdown??

The GOP and the insurance industry are attempting to sabotage Obamacare and their corporate mouthpieces are working overtime.

The "unmitigated disaster" of Obamacare is now evident, they say. The President lied. Millions and millions are seeing their policies canceled. The government cannot do anything right. It was a cruel hoax played on people that thought they could keep their coverage. And so on and so on...

The President and the Democrats need to defend the law aggressively if they want to see it survive. The truth needs to be told.

First of all, the GOP has nothing to offer. Fifty million Americans with no coverage is perfectly OK with them. They are working hand in hand with the insurance industry to tear down the new law.

Also, Democrats understand that there are problems with the new law. They are willing to work with the Republicans to fix it. But the GOP does not want to fix it. They want to repeal it. That would be the "unmitigated disaster".

Meanwhile, the disaster that was the government shutdown has almost disappeared. The genius of the GOP and its propaganda techniques has never been more evident.

But the Democratic Party will not turn its back on those millions and millions of Americans who had no coverage at all and were at the mercy of the heartless insurance companies. We cannot and will not return to that disaster. If we must, we will proceed without any help from the Republican Party. We know whose side they are on.

Before 2014 midterm races are heating up. By then, most will see the propaganda for what it is and many will be privately happy with the changes even if they don't say so publicly.

If they are permitted to paint it as a "disaster", that will be the reality in 8 months. They must be counter-attacked now.
