I have been reading the Press Democrat off & on over the past couple weeks, just to familiarize myself with the writers and local news since I am gunning for a job in the area...So I am aware of the Andy Lopez story.
This feels like he will be another martyr like Trayvon Martin..except this time it actually *was* a cop who went off the deep end. Justice will not prevail, I am afraid...but here we are again with more proof our Police have been militarized and see we the citizens ALL as the enemy...

now I feel like a dork for bringing it up...but why shouldn;t the feds get involved as a civil rights case? they should have with trayvon too...
oh, I forget, the Feds have to back up the police - because they are all extensions of the DHS

(1,991 posts)but when they won't even go after the Bush cabal, then I don't expect much from them.
BTW, there is an ongoing civil rights investigation in the Trayvon Martin case.

"Experienced federal prosecutors will determine whether the evidence reveals a prosecutable violation of any of the limited federal criminal civil rights statutes within our jurisdiction and whether federal prosecution is appropriate in accordance with the department's policy governing successive federal prosecution following a state trial," the department said in a release Sunday.
I really don't expect anything to come of this either.

(1,991 posts)The stance is an apparent reversal from the bureau's notice last week, when its agents told command staff at the Sonoma County Sheriff's Office and Santa Rosa Police Department that the agency would conduct its own investigation of the Oct. 22 shooting death of Andy Lopez, looking for potential violations of federal civil rights laws.
