http://www.abc15.com/dpp/news/region_phoenix_metro/central_phoenix/phoenix-police-monitor-man-child-carrying-rifle-handgun-at-sky-harborAccording to Phoenix police Sgt. Trent Crump, an officer patrolling Terminal 3 was told a man had a rifle slung over his shoulder in a public area of the terminal around 4:30 p.m.
The man was with his 12-year-old son, who had a handgun holstered to his hip, Crump said.
The man reportedly told officers that he was waiting to pick up an arriving passenger and was armed out of fear for his safety.
Crump said Phoenix officers monitored the man and his son during their time at the airport and stayed with them until they left the property.
"Laws change drastically once you enter a secured area of the airport; however, state law governs the publicly accessible areas and these actions are not prohibited," Crump said.
This comes two days after a man shot and killed a TSA agent with a rifle at the Los Angeles International Airport.

(16,993 posts)While the police were busy watching him and his son, the rest of the airport was probably ignored. What about the safety of everyone else in the place?
