PARAMUS Police are reportedly responding to reports of a possible shooting at the Garden State Plaza mall in Bergen County tonight.
Shots were fired inside the mall shortly after it closed for the night at about 9:30 p.m., according to a report by CBS-2 in New York.
A representative of the Bergen County Police department told The Star-Ledger that police are responding to an incident at the Garden State Plaza mall, but she would not confirm the incident is a shooting.
News 4 New York is reporting that a man dressed in black clothing was armed with a rifle and began firing shots inside the popular mall. The TV station attributed that account to witnesses.

As a teenager, I spent a lot of time at Garden State Plaza & Paramus Park, they were the hangouts for kids back then. Fuckin gun nuts.

(4,713 posts)are hermits. Baseball practice & school. This is just insane when can we just start confiscating the guns exactly? Is there a quota we must me first or something, I think we should be close.

(1,991 posts)just not going to happen, the american people are solidly against a gun ban or confiscation.
There are other measures that can be taken without resorting to unworkable pipe dreams.

(5,963 posts)...restriction of liberty, right?
Chan790
(20,176 posts)You see a restriction of your liberty to be armed, I see an expansion of my liberty to live in a nation almost entirely-free of gun violence.
I think we all benefit if I win. I'm pretty sure of it, in fact.
eqfan592
(5,963 posts)It's actually a restriction on my ability to defend myself and my family for your ability to feel a false sense of security. So we all most decidedly don't all benefit if you win.

(1,991 posts)confiscation is an infringement of a right, one that SCOTUS would slap down pretty damn quick.
Chan790
(20,176 posts)I believe he failed.
As for SCOTUS, I expect that soon the makeup of the court is going to be different. (The next President if they serve 2 terms may pick as many as 4 Justices, the seats of: Ginsburg, Scalia, Kennedy and Breyer. Breyer, the youngest, would be 86 in 2024, Kennedy and Scalia 88, Ginsburg 91.) Presuming a Democratic win in 2016 and 2020, the court may shift to an extent that RKBA curbs you'd never think viable will pass muster with that body.
Ranchemp.
(1,991 posts)then why hasn't this RW court curbed or overturned Roe v Wade? They've had ample opportunity to do so.
Sorry, but the the justices are really hesitant to overturn settled law.
Confiscation in this country will never happen, that's just plain fact.

(23,925 posts)the Voting Rights Act might be surprised to learn that this group of Supremes are "really hesitant" to overturn settled law. Also, there are 4 votes dying to overturn the settled law that is Roe v Wade. The only thing between them and their desired outcome is a Democrat in the White House.

(4,713 posts)to curb the insanity that is our daily life right now. Obviously gun nutters don't understand the concept of play responsible with their toys & there is no way to tell who the "good" guy is from one day to the next. So fuck it, let them all start at zero & earn the privilege to have their silly little toy.

(5,963 posts)...it's no wonder rational discussion on this topic is next to impossible here.

(4,713 posts)public places such as malls or be at ease with their children going to school without wondering if some idiot with a gun decided today was the day to use innocent people for target practice or have a negligent discharge because they are to stupid to understand weapon safety. Obviously what is happening now is not working.
People with weapons don't seem to understand that guns aren't meant to be left laying around for a toddler to play with or a 5th grader to take to school because another kid has pissed him off, so therefore fuck this silly ass bullshit about it's a right to have one. We should not feel like hostages in our daily lives.

(20,176 posts)even if we've managed to get through the past 3 days with one dead and 3 injured, it's very obviously reached the point where the public welfare is too far gone for there to not be serious curbs on RKBA. Clearly, this is happening too often, too many guns are ending up in the wrong hands and the populace should not have to be on edge waiting for the next Newtown...Aurora...Virginia Tech...Columbine...DC Beltway.
It's time for the NRA and RKBA activists to go on the record as to what kinds of significant and meaningful gun control they'll accept. It's time for them to accept it's either going to happen with their input and collaboration; or it's going to happen with their opposition and be imposed upon them. It's better to be part of the process than to have it rammed over them.
So...what kinds of substantial and meaningful gun control will RKBA activists accept? Weigh in.

(20,176 posts)Facts do poorly in comparison to perceptions when it comes to public outcry for change.
The perception is that there too many of these kinds of crimes happening too often and all the statistics in the world aren't going to change that...there's a sea-change coming where eventually there will be substantial gun control with the cooperation of RKBA activists or where they fight tooth and nail unto their defeat and destruction. If it's the second, the gun laws resultant will be far more draconian.
You should get on the bandwagon and work towards acceptable substantive solutions.
eqfan592
(5,963 posts)...to take advantage of the public's false perceptions. Wow, never thought I'd see somebody just come out and admit that. Thanks!
And trust me, I'm already working for acceptable, substantive solutions. I'm working to reduce poverty, increase access to mental healthcare, and reform a justice system that needs to be built around rehabilitation and not punishment, just to name a few things that would have a far greater impact on the violent crime rate than just about anything I've seen come out of the "more gun control" crowd.
But please, continue to squander opportunities to highlight these far more important issues by pushing for do-nothing anti-gun legislation.
Chan790
(20,176 posts)"lies, damned lies, and statistics."
I'm arguing the facts are the perception, not the crime statistics. If Americans feel there is too much gun violence...there is too much gun violence, even if it's less gun violence than we had 30 years ago.
You're on the wrong side of this and eventually, you'll be on the wrong side of history.
eqfan592
(5,963 posts)People who work towards prohibition and restriction of liberties are rarely on the right side of history. Peace.
