But four centuries after he, and his fellow conspirators, were hanged, drawn and quartered for treason, Guy Fawkes has become a figure-head for protest by such groups as Anonymous. Hero or Terrorist?

For the established government he would be a terrorist.
For those opposing the established government he is a hero.

Since there was no media at the time, he could not be a terrorist. He intended to achieve his effect directly by blowing up the King and Parliament.

first that the "revolutionary" Fawkes becomes a fictional hero, then when V, a mass murderer, becomes a hero, then when Anonymous chooses the mass murderer as its logo, and now as a phony libertarian completes the circle back to Fawkes.

I am a bit ignorant of the history, but I remember reading about that fact.
