Gallup: Trust in Media Recovers from all-time low. Dems trust media more than GOPers.

The latest results are based on Gallup's annual Governance survey, conducted Sept. 5-8. Americans have consistently been more distrusting than trusting of the media each year since 2007, in contrast with 1997 through 2003, when the slight majority expressed trust in the media.

This year's bump in confidence comes mainly from independents and Republicans, after these groups' trust in the media dropped last year amid a heated presidential election race in which Mitt Romney supporters may have felt their candidate was being treated unfairly. Democrats' confidence, however, has been inching up since 2011.

Consistent with Republicans' and independents' dissatisfaction with the media, far more Americans say the media are too liberal than too conservative, 46% vs. 13%, as was the case in 2011, and every year since Gallup has been tracking this trend. Thirty-seven percent currently describe the media's political leanings as "just about right."

In there: Democrats are twice as likely to trust MSM than Republicans are, 60% versus 33%.

Also 74% of Republicans believe the MSM is "too liberal" versus just 21% of Democrats believing it "too conservative."

I think this says a lot about why there is so little left leaning media in the USA. Even shows perceived as 'liberal' or with large left leaning audiences use frames, issues, guests and clips from RW media. One example is TDS, and Colbert, both of which focus on Fox News for much of their material. It is like a team that plays only defense. Flipping it over, there is no TV show where a conservative host obsesses and plays clips from Rachel Maddow or anything similar.

Knowing that liberals will watch conservative media but RWers won't watch liberal media makes such programming decisions pretty easy for the corporations that own media. They go for the biggest audience.

Trusting the corporate agenda media is foolish. Stopped watching the "news" networks years ago and don't miss it.

I trust Rachel and usually Lawrence but that is about it. I NEVER watch any regular news shows. They certainly can not be trusted.

...and trusting the MSM more than Fox, Limbaugh, Drudge, etc.

Not necessarily a matter of huge trust at all, just relatively better trust.
