(128,767 posts)that voted for Scott Brown in MA back a few years ago. They like his angry bullying tough guy bravado. They like someone who "tells it like (they think) it is".
I think what people are seeing (being from a neighbor state myself that provides the media market for South Jersey) is that in order to rise above the noisy political din, one has to be an attention-getter (like Booker was) or some "dynamic" figure. Otherwise from what I have observed from Jerseyites, is that the "all politics is local" thing sets in and the electorate ignores the state-level election in favor of their local county and municipal elections.
If you look at the past history of the Democrats in some of the major NJ cities, you'll see a revolving door of corruption and jail time (Camden, Trenton, AC, etc).
