25,000 votes difference. It's close, but with only 120 precincts left, it is not reasonable to say the Dem has much of a chance.

(40,416 posts)I started the thread at 10PM when things were looking grim.
You people who were Johnny come lately and started throwing chairs around the room are not appreciated very much.
This thread is a discussion which evolved over hours before some decided to what I can only call disrupt. It was friendly, and we all got caught up in the excitement as an apparent loss turned into a probable victory.
Unfortunately, there are those here on DU who always have to be right. When they disagree, they don't reason, they throw chairs.
I am not afraid to be wrong. I am glad that I was wrong here. That you missed out on the excitement of this thread as loss turned into victory, I am sorry. I wish you would have joined earlier. Then, maybe you would not be so disappointed. Or so rude.
longship
(40,416 posts)The other disrupters have.
Again, this thread evolved over hours, something of which you apparently are not aware (other than the time stamps on the posts). This thread tells a story about possible victory out of the doldrums of failure.
But you jump in after things have turned around and start screaming "you were wrong!!!!!"
Too bad you did not join the conversation at 10PM.
And too bad that you, too, choose to be rude.
StrictlyRockers
(3,854 posts)This is easily the best thread of the night. No, I'm not self-deleting. And yes, you're right, you were very wrong to be so certain, over and over and over, that we lost this race. I can tell it stings.
And BTW, your 1:00 AM is my 10:00 PM.
I'm ready to make a prediction. When you wake up tomorrow morning you will find that you were even more wrongish than before. Our dude is going to win this AG race. You're the one who painted yourself into a corner by stating over and over and over that you were sure he was going to lose.
I know we are both very glad that you were wrong. And, I am not trying to rub it in. Myself, and some others maybe just find it curious and amusing that you were and are so intent on defending your wrongocity. Please, proceed. snicker

Edited to add quotation from State Board of Elections :
In Virginia, there are no automatic recounts. Only an apparent losing candidate can ask for a recount, and only if the difference between the apparent winning candidate and that apparent losing candidates is not more than one percent (1%) of the total votes cast for those two candidates. (A law change effective 7/1/2009 allows a recount to be requested if the difference is not more than five percent (5%) of the total votes cast for those two candidates if one of those candidates was a write-in candidate for that office). (§ 24.2-800, Code of Virginia)
Motown_Johnny
(22,308 posts)With over 2 million votes so 1% will be over 20,000 votes. The margin is smaller than that now and with mostly (D) precincts left to count it should stay well below that threshold.

You said "no way" to the recount at 11:17pm. At that time there were well over 2,000,000 votes cast. One candidate would have had to have received more than 20,000 more votes than his opponent to disallow a recount.
