And frankly also from a youthful sense of fun and adventure.

5. My mother used to but old sweaters at the flea market (when the flea market was just that)

and would unravel them and knit us mittens with long tops that covered most of our arms and socks to play outside in at home. We didn't get cold, and we had plenty of each.
