LONDON -- Two British teens have sparked outrage after dressing up for Halloween as the Twin Towers during the 9/11 attacks.
The costumes were labeled "South Tower" and "North Tower" and included explosions, planes, and people jumping out of the buildings, The Sun newspaper reported. The tabloid's front-page headline on Wednesday read "Towering Stupidity."
The 19-year-old students also wore American flags planted among more wreckage on their heads.
They reportedly received £150 ($240) for winning the "best dressed" competition at a Halloween party at Rosies nightclub in Chester, England.

The over reaction over the US girls marathon costume and this are ridiculous. This is the media looking for clicks and it is incredibly lame.

(41,692 posts)But when you make it a national smack you deserve the smacking IMHO. There is zero justification for these kids to be put on a national stage to be badgered. No matter ho bad their taste or perhaps you believe every instance of your bad taste should be mocked on national media?
People do stupid things that doesnt mean they should be mocked world wide. It is disgusting. And way worse than any lapse in judgement these kids had.

(29,047 posts)I am not saying it is or is not, I am just wondering which type of deaths can be costumes in various people's opinions.

(89,172 posts)there are many car accidents where people don't get hurt .
but this twin towers one points to a specific event. it was the same as with the boston marathon.
many people dress up or put on makeup to make it look like they are wounded and in itself it's not considered offensive.

(30,481 posts)I can only imagine one girl dressed as a banged up Mercedes and the other as post accident Princess Dianna wouldn't go over very well in England. Probably wouldn't go over well anywhere. I would say that and the twin tower costume would be equally as tasteless in many places, while accepted in others. I think sticking with non-reality based events when dealing with death is the best way to go on Halloween.
