Obama apologizes to Americans losing health plans

President Obama on Thursday said he was sorry that Americans are receiving cancellation notices from their insurance companies after he promised that people could keep their insurance plans if they liked them.

“I am sorry that they are finding themselves in this situation … based on assurances they got from me,” Obama said in an interview with NBC News. “We’ve got to work hard to make sure that they know we hear them and that we’re going to do everything we can to deal with folks who find themselves in a tough position as a consequence of this.”

Obama made his remarks – a 19-second excerpt was released before the full interview is aired at 6:30 p.m. – as his administration faces intense criticism over the rollout of the Affordable Care Act.

We've been hearing that insurance companies have always canceled policies, and any new cancellations are not because they are compelled by the ACA, but because of the insurance companies making unilateral decisions.

So is the president saying that the ACA really does compel insurance companies to drop people?

Explain it like I'm six.

insurance companies had always planned to drop the plans so that ACA could be implemented. We were also told that folks insurance plans had been going up ever since ACA had been announced as coming in three years...and that folks felt they were gouged and then thrown off the plans.

So there are two different stories. As a Dem I figured it was that the Insurance Companies were doing what the ACA Asked and dropping the plans in preparation for the ACA Care to kick in in January or March (the months of kick in seem to change). But, I thought it was Trashers of the ACA trying to claim their rates were increased for three years before being thrown off.

Now I'm not so sure of the truth of it being that the insurers dropped people because ACA was kicking in and that those who claimed they were forced to deal with high rates and now kicked off plan with ACA having so many troubles that POB needed to apologize weren't the ones telling the TRUTH!

What a mess this is. He should have kept quiet and worked to fix the problems. Now it sounds like he's admitting that it rolled out either too late or too soon.
