http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2013/11/08/iowa-police-kill-son-whose-father-only-wanted-to-teach-him-a-lesson/Police in Ames, Iowa began pursuing 19-year-old Tyler Comstock after his father, James, reported the van he was driving as stolen. By the time the chase ended, Tyler was dead, shot six times by Ames police officer Adam McPherson.
But the van wasnt stolen, according to James Comstock, it was borrowed by his son, who wanted to buy cigarettes.
Ring ... Ring ... Hello You have reached 911 Dispatch, who would you like us to execute?
The money required to pay out on lawsuits for this type of police behavior should be taken directly form the retirement accounts of the police department. It's the only way you'll get these neanderthals to think twice before they empty their guns

That poor father had no idea he was ordering hitmen to go after his son

(44,972 posts)People should really do a search before they start a new thread. As regarding "murder" that's ridiculous. Car could be a deadly weapon. This teen already rammed his truck into a police car during the chase.

(62,444 posts)The audio seems a little out of sync, since you hear the collision from him backing the trailer into the police car before he does that.
Likewise the time he spins around and rams the police car.

(18,477 posts)I think there is another piece of information we do not have. From what has been reported, there is no rational reason he should have fled from the police.
As for police actions, given that he went out of his way to twice ram the pursuing officer's car, possibly struck a vehicle with his trailer, nearly hit three others and just missed hitting a pedestrian at the university I regretfully agree that deadly force was not excessive. It was only a matter of time before he would have killed someone with his vehicle.

(65,616 posts)NEVER call cops to help you solve domestic issues. Unless it is domestic violence. I would say a person has a 50/50 chance of being shot by the cops, no matter what the situation when they show up.

(10,960 posts)The father should be prosecuted, for starters.
As for the kid... the moment he runs it doesn't much matter whether the truck was actually stolen, so that's all a red herring.
The police tried to pull over a stolen vehicle (from their rational perspective) that took off in a very community-threatening chase featuring use of the vehicle as a weapon.
This is not much different from the lady at the Capitol last month.
This story is or is not outrageous based on the outrageousness of police shotting someone after a dangerous high speed chase featuring driving into police cars twice.
And that is certainly arguably outrageous.
But the presentation of the story is kind of a load of bullshit. It's like, "cops shoot honor student." It implies wrongful death from factors having nothing to do with the question.
Or those "Cops shoot man over broken tail-light" stories... as if what a car was pulled over for is the key factor, rather than the subsequent events.
