With a simple, probably inexpensive cartoon, you have over 300 comments on a political website!
Congratulations! Best ad campaign I have seen in a long time!

If I have something important I want to share on DU, I am going to either write "PETA" or "Pit Bull and toddler" or some such shit. At least people will look at it.

(40,416 posts)If you want to support animal rights there are all sorts of awesome organizations who aren't barking mad and which will do some actual good. Many of them are small and hard pressed to do real actual good with meager resources. Many are local. None of them use their resources for douche-baggery. Sadly, that's not true of PETA.
Fuck PETA!

(14,040 posts)I used to work at PETA (it was my first full-time web design gig). They have several methods of operation... this being one of their more common ones.
Here are the steps:
1. Create an ad that is totally outrageous
2. Claim you are going to post it somewhere or even put it up in one place.
3. Send out a press release about said outrageousness...
4. Everyone starts talking about the ad and PETA.
5. Mission accomplished for very little $$ or effort.
There have been some really outrageous ads created by PETA that have never been displayed anywhere but in a news article--and that's the point of that ad. PETA wants people talking... they don't care if it's good or bad, as long as a conversation is being had. If you're hating on PETA, in some way you're still thinking about the animals. If you're loving PETA, you're still thinking about the animals. I'd say this most recent ad has accomplished their goals. Want to shut down PETA, don't talk about them.

Brilliant.
Of course...then PETA will get more than 10 thousand views on GD, but it's kind of funny
