Miss Universe Pageant Tonight!!!

Does anyone give a shit?

I don't.

What are your thoughts on such pageants generally? I think they are an antiquated ceremonial objectification of women, surprisingly so even in a world in which objectification of women is common. I think they are crass and shallow even in a world in which crassness and shallowness are common.

It's what my mother called the debutante circuit, a marital slave auction. Just entering local pageants will up your marital stock value.

The really sad part now is that surgical enhancement is now necessary since women are expected to look like models with eating disorders who weren't considered thin enough and were Photoshopped into a "near death" body weight.

I won't be watching. It has never appealed to me, it's appeal is mostly to men and partially to young women who are looking for fashion role models.

As a poster above said, wake me up when a Marie Curie wins or when life accomplishments will be a factor instead of just tits and ass and youth.
