My Dad who is no longer with us.. served WW2 Omaha beach. I still honor your memory and sacrifice on this day. To all veterans .. They are the last ones who want war.. the ones who fight in our stance. I hope I do a better job in helping to stop us from going to battle so many times, by my vote and support of people who think first. But I always, always honor your service.

(50,130 posts)My uncle was an army captain and was a POW of the Japanese Imperial Army for more than three years after the fall of Corregidor. He was wounded in the bombardment when he went out from cover to drag injured soldiers to safety. His leg became gangrenous, and an army surgeon sawed it off, in one of the caves there. He told us "Never forget" -- meaning the suffering of the POWs.

(22,872 posts)right now in our family.. It is something they wanted to do. Serve the country. They went National Guard, because they serve the communities in so many ways.. they are the ones on the ground in national weather events etc.. Very proud of both of them. It was a clear headed choice of service for them. At first I thought maybe it was for college money, but no they are dong it for service. hats off to them both
