I met a 103 year old WW2 Vet today
My husband (Nam Vet) and I went to a Veteran's Day Military Memorabilia Exhibit. They had everything from the Civil War to Operation Desert Storm, however, the majority were from WW2.
As we went around, we went in to a WW2 room, and there was a very, very old man sitting in a wheelchair in front of one glass encased exhibit with a person's picture, name, uniform, and gear. People were going over to him saluting, shaking his hand, and thanking him for his service. It was all HIS service equipment in that case.
Honestly, I almost started crying. Not only did he survive the war when so many of his buddies hadn't, he has probably survived so many of his younger relatives and friends. I know my own Dad, who survived the war, did not live long enough to reach 70, let alone 103.
There are very, very few WW2 Veterans today. I feel honored that in 2013 there are still some for the younger generations to meet, and that I met one myself. I know my Dad would be congratulating him too.
Happy Veterans Day, Joseph!
