A little surprise perk of Obamacare.

When I got my flu shot last week it was free -- the first time this had happened on our employer-based insurance.

The pharmacist told me this was because of Obamacare (though some insurers are waiting till 2014 before they will offer free flu shots.)

If you're behind on your tetanus or any other necessary vaccinations, you should be able to catch up for free in 2014.

excellent news. I have two kids that are behind and need some updates for public school. Who paid for it? Your employer or was it a federal subsidy or do they just make the insurance company pay it now ? Did the pharmacist say?

including employer policies and individual policies will pay for it.

The pharmacist said my husband's company (which is self-insured) paid it now though technically they didn't have to till 2014.

He said some self-insured companies and health insurers have been faster than others about getting on board with this, but all will have to soon.

on my own individual plan. Plus free tetanus and colonoscopy but I'm afraid to do the colonoscopy yet.

and I thought I would have a really hard time fasting for so long. It is pretty awful, but there is a lot of good advice on the web to make it a little bit easier. And it's all over a day later. You have probably lived through far worse cases of the flu. You're unconscious for the procedure itself, so it is no big deal, and 45 minutes later, most people feel fine. I could have even driven home, but the hospital wouldn't allow that. Schedule the procedure for about 10 in the morning (or earlier) so that you don't have to be hungry too long, if that is a problem.

Get it done. You won't feel a thing, and it could ( pardon the pun) save your ass.

The annoying part is fasting the day before and drinking a bunch of stuff to help you clean out your insides. So the worst part is all the trips to the toilet -- really, that's it. Once you have one, you'll really never worry about another one.

I always think of it as the start of my next diet.

colonoscopies which can run in to thousands of dollars. Many employers have already implemented this feature in their plans except those that sought grandfathered status and are waiting until 2014 to make all mandated improvements.
