UNITED NATIONS, November 13 (RIA Novosti) Russia and a group of other countries has submitted a draft resolution to a UN committee condemning the glorification of Nazism.
The draft put forward Tuesday is aimed at condemning modern forms of racism, racial discrimination and xenophobia.
Russias UN representative Grigory Lukyantsev said the resolution is aimed at addressing concern over the escalation of extreme groups, like neo-Nazi and skinheads using violence.
If approved at committee level, the resolution will be submitted for a vote at the UN General Assembly.
The UN General Assembly last year adopted a separate resolution submitted by Russia condemning the construction of memorials in honor of former Nazis and the holding of public pro-Nazi demonstrations.

(15,190 posts)The Russians seem to like thugs these days, as long as they're the right kind of thug. In that light, condemning Nazis doesn't seem like anything more than political cover for what they don't condemn.

(16,843 posts)I care about the de facto situation over there. It's been widely reported that they're throwing people in jail for encouraging homosexuality, which amounts to just living your life openly. Gangs have been attacking gay people all over the country, including gangs of cops attacking people at pro-GLBT marches. I'm sure you know about that.
