The disinformation surrounding the ACA is astounding. Dealing with FB "friends" all day...

It's mind blowing. I know the people I've been dealing with are Fox watchers. They're all from Red states with no exchanges..."Why do I have to pay more just so you can get a better policy?" HUH? When pressed, not a single one of them has said they'd actually visited Healthcare.gov...they just parrot what Hannity and Fox & Friends have told them, or just spouted the lies delivered to them in their insurance cancellation policy.

I have to hand it to the GOP and the corporate media...they've scared the bejeebers out of people. Too bad Mr. Obama couldn't have been more out in front of this fiasco. How did they not see this coming? Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups, Mr. President.

when you have a change like this some individuals will be affected in ways they perceive as negative....

My take is as follows:
(1) ACCESS to AFFORDABLE healthcare is as much a right as the right to free speech or freedom of religion. As a matter of physical existence it is more important that free speech or religion
(2) We must establish a meaningful "basement" of coverage so that the objectives of healthcare can be realized
- A healthier population based on regular screenings and physicals
- Reduced healthcare costs because individual health care issues are identified earlier and can be treated at a lower cost
- Reduced healthcare costs because individuals visit their doctor or at worst an urgent care clinic before going to the emergency room
- Reduced healthcare costs because it is cheaper to purchase insurance than it is to pay outright for care - i.e. uninsured go to emergency room and those with insurance pay for the care through increased charges
(3) Personal responsibility in healthcare is more important than auto insurance. I am all for requiring auto insurance but not all of us drive a car but all of us are human and will, at some point in our lives, require healthcare

Either access to health care is a right or it isn't because "affordable" is such a subjective measure.

The Republicans haven't had any new ideas since Reagan, and nearly all of Reagan's ideas have proven to be a disaster.

Actually an old friend I hadn't seen in years. She was going toe to toe with some knuckleheads on Facebook about the ACA. The power of stupid is strong on every level. All I know is I now have health insurance again after three years of walking the tightrope.

The media has been all about pushing stories on people getting their junk insurance policies cancelled , while I've seen hardly any of the success stories about people who've gotten good insurance at good rates through the ACA. The media is doing nothing to correct the misinformation on the red states that didn't accept the medicaid expansion. And it's not just Fox News.

I've seen friends of mine on FB complain about the rates and I tell them they have our teabagger legislature to thank for that for not expanding medicaid. Don't blame the ACA. It's very frustrating.
