Artist Discovers Unseen Color Photos of JFK's Final Moments

After sitting forgotten in storage for more than 45 years, the daughter of an amateur photographer has uncovered a set of remarkable images taken mere minutes before President John Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas.

The photos, which now appear in TIME and LightBox, were taken by H. Warner King, a Dallas Jewelry wholesaler and amateur photographer who died in 2005.

Recently, his daughter, Sonia King, was sorting through his possessions when she stumbled upon a red box labeled "November/December 1963." She found the Kennedy pics right away.

In September 1961 Kennedy spoke at the UN in support of a proposal for total disarmament of all nations--no navies, no air forces, no armies--except for small forces for the purposes of maintaining internal order and for a UN international policing force.

In June of 1963 Kennedy pledged that the USA would never start a war.

In September of 1963, Kennedy proposed that the moon shot be a joint USSR/USA mission.

After years of experience since that time with the Military-Industrial-Congressional-Press-Lobbyist-National Security Complex (and its propagandists) we can all see how incredibly naive he was to think he could get away with such talk.

I look forward to learning more about these images, including the one showing two Secret Service agents riding on the siderails of the car immediately behind JFK. I wonder where that one image was taken, as the car wasn't anywhere near as close, and the agents weren't anywhere near to JFK in the Dealey Plaza part of the motorcade route.

Compresses the space so things look closer together than they might have been.

Yet it had rained earlier.

If only it had continued raining that morning ... the top would have been put up.

What might have been.

So sad.

such as bad weather, change of job assignment, the alarm didn't go off, etc. – probably many. We only notice when tragedies do happen.

After the fact, people go through the sequence of events that lead up to the tragedy and come to the conclusion that the tragedy was some great, well orchestrated plan. Not necessarily: sometimes bad things just fall into place and tragedies happen.

It just so happened that some kook with a rifle happened to get a job overlooking the parade route. Many things could have prevented this, but in this case everything fell into place. We notice this event, but not the assassinations that didn't happen.

by how they dressed and wore their hair. In the last twenty or so years we've lost that distinct stile.

Maybe it's partially that I'm getting older and time goes by more quickly and everything blends together, but I think it's true.

....and found my collection of newspapers I saved when I was a kid.

Included are the moon landing and the Bobby Kennedy Assassination.

Too bad nobody cares about that stuff. Not with the Internet and all.

Right?

She is an amazing artist. She used to own an Amiga store at one time.

I'm glad she reconsidered taking the photos her father took all those years ago!
