Healthcare.gov Errors Now BELOW 1%

Healthcare.gov Errors Now BELOW 1%

by ericlewis0

Suck on this, GOP. From The Hill:

A key official in the repair effort for HealthCare.gov said the site's error rate is now lower than 1 percent thanks to weeks' worth of special improvements were made.

Former White House budget director Jeff Zients, who was enlisted to triage the website, touted the development as a sign of progress.

...

He noted that there were no unscheduled outages on the site in the past week, a positive sign, and that more than 60 bugs were recently fixed.

(my bold)

http://thehill.com/blogs/healthwatch/health-reform-implementation/190430-official-healthcaregov-error-rate-below-1

Below 1%! That's a better error rate than my Twitter stream. Zients says in the article that he thinks they'll find more bugs to iron out, but believes they'll be done with the fix in time for the self-imposed November 30th deadline.

I hope this serves as a hearty STFU to the naysayers who are so eager to make this rollout some kind of Waterloo for President Obama. I stand with everyone working to make the Affordable Care Act as successful as possible.

5. US Healthcare.gov demonstrates lack of basic website optimisation
Fri Nov 15, 2013, 05:26 PM
Nov 2013
The problematic US Healthcare.gov website appears to fail the most fundamental of performance optimisation tests, an analysis has found.

Healthcare.gov, a key piece of the Affordable Care Act, often referred to as 'Obamacare', is a website from the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) that allows uninsured US citizens to shop for new health insurance plans. However, the $630 million website has been plagued with problems since its launch on 1 October 2013, including outages, slow page loads and users not being able to complete applications.

Over a month since the website's launch, an analysis by application performance company Compuware has found that standard website design optimisation practices, that have been around for years, have still not been applied. This leads to too much content being downloaded by the site, which continues to slow it down.

In the most simple example, the homepage hosts a large background image which Compuware was able to compress by more than 70 percent without affecting the quality.

"It is this 'blurry' background image that is 350KB in size. I downloaded it, opened and re-saved without losing any quality with my free Paint.NET program. Now the size is 99KB - that's a reduction of more than 70 percent," Andreas Grabner, technology strategist for Compuware and lead of the Compuware APM Centre of Excellence team, wrote in a blog.

And about the only complaint I didn't have was with response time. My thought was why did they have so many screens? Often a screen would ask a single question then required me to hit the "save" button. That creates a lot of I/O because I'm sure that a file segment would not contain a single field. My issues were with improper data mapping, "Saved" data did not get saved, masks were not consistent (sometimes you had to key the two dashes in SSN and sometimes you only needed to key the numbers). Sloppy design and unbelievably rotten testing as much of this should have been caught in unit testing, long before the end-to-end testing that only started 2 weeks prior to roll-out. When my User ID had lower case alpha converted to upper case it made me think that it uses obsolete screen scraping technology - something I haven't seen since the early 90's. Oh, we dumped COMPUWARE software because it was too costly and IBM had a product that was less than half the price and didn't require as many resources to execute. It was a real win-win for us.

15. Not Sure What He Is Talking About
Fri Nov 15, 2013, 07:49 PM
Nov 2013

Just this afternoon I went through the process up to the final enrollment step for my daughter. I had the site crash on me 8-9 times. It does not save data after hitting "save" in most cases. Data does not always track properly, i.e., I could not input the correct address information -- it substituted historical address information instead. It even threw me into a loop that ended in a crash when I did attempt to correct the address data. When thrown into these loops it was necessary to re-input data previously "saved". It even started with inputting her User ID. The lower case letters were all converted to upper case and I discovered that when I went through the "forgot User ID" process and, no, I did not have caps lock on.

From where I sit, the problems are still massive so is this guy talking about what they are encountering in their beta testing? It sure isn't the case for those using the web site today. Not even close. Indeed, it is hard to imagine that it was even worse several days ago.

the ACA is not all about a website.

The question I would ask you is this:

Are you really going to let being inconvenienced stop you from getting health insurance? That's what it sounds like.

1-800-318-2596 <-- that's the number you can call. Why should you?

Why not?

Are you going to spite yourself just because you are having a hard time getting on the website?

I'm sorry you are part of the less than 1%, but you still have options.

I tried out the new website thehealthsherpa.com and it does work as advertised. No worries about data theft because it only asks your zip code, income, # of people to be insured, and whether you smoke. Then up pops a list of plans available in your area, complete with costs. I tried it under several different scenarios and got good info each time. Of course you still have to call the insurance company direct to sign up and if you qualify for medicaid, you need to do that independently as well. But I think that would be easier than struggling with the government website IF it's still not working for you.

I intend to submit another of my letters to the editor of our local weekly tomorrow, and I had to check out thehealthsherpa.com myself before recommending it. Unfortunately all the plans available here are from companies already under federal scrutiny for grandfather clause fraud, but forewarned is forearmed. I know better than to say that so completely in my letter, but I can word it in such a way as to share the info discreetly w/o getting sued.

28. Thank you to Jeff Zients for the triage.
Fri Nov 15, 2013, 11:11 PM

About triage:

Those responsible for the removal of the wounded from a battlefield or their care afterwards would divide the victims into three categories:

Those who are likely to live, regardless of what care they receive;
Those who are likely to die, regardless of what care they receive;
Those for whom immediate care might make a positive difference in outcome.

For many emergency medical services (EMS) systems, a similar model may sometimes still be applied. In the earliest stages of an incident, such as when one or two paramedics exist to twenty or more patients, practicality demands that the above, more "primitive" model will be used. However once a full response has occurred and many hands are available, paramedics will usually use the model included in their service policy and standing orders.

As medical technology has advanced, so has modern approaches to triage which are increasingly based on scientific models. The categorizations of the victims are frequently the result of triage scores based on specific physiological assessment findings. Some models, such as the START model may be algorithm-based. As triage concepts become more sophisticated, triage guidance is also evolving into both software and hardware decision support products for use by caregivers in both hospitals and the field.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triage

Thank you Jeff, you saved the victim that the GOP believes to be the Obamacare website. She lives and so many will prosper from the benefits that are offered.

As Mr. Spock said...Live long and prosper.

Thanks, ProSense. Great news.
