Infotainment news has discredited itself along with papers that are 90% advertisement vehicles and only 10% news and most of that news is now delivered with a conservative, corporate slant.

I wonder how many of the new readers in the Americas realize they're reading a paper which is fairly hard leftist. It's interesting that their readership is going up that fast.

Don't rely on the MSM or polls for they are surely run by those wishing to shape 'reality' in their favor.

Glad you're here! I remember how The Guardian was the only major publication anywhere that consistently told the truth about bush/cheney - especially regarding their collective war hard-on. Agence France-Presse was another one. Most of the overseas news outlets did, but The Guardian led the way. And if any of them moved the meter at all, it was The Guardian that did so, and nobody gave a damn about der Spiegel or the rest of 'em. That was "Old Europe" as rummy dismissively sneered. That and the McClatchy papers here in the U.S. - which were decidedly low-profile and nobody paid much attention to them. Unlike what the devious network executive (played by Robert Duvall) in the movie "Network" called "the holy goddamn New York Times."

a quote from the article

The main word that people going to The Guardian were searching for was “Syria,” according to Compete’s blog. That would indicate Americans appreciate The Guardian’s skepticism of President Obama’s plans to attack Syria and its reputation for honest reporting. It also indicates that average Americans no longer trust their own media and are increasingly turning to a foreign news source.

And one is your point -- people don't trust the media. But more important, they are turning because they can. Before newspapers went online the only place you could read foreign press was in some libraries and a few newsstands.

Sun Nov 17, 2013, 03:49 AM
Nov 2013

about Iraq, the Sunday shows where the Liars, Cheney, Condi et al were allowed to get away with their lies and treated as if they were not war criminals and liars, I rarely ever read a US mainstream newspaper or watch the MSM, too frustrating to try to find actual unbiased news there.

I go to many International news sites, watch any Independent media I can find on TV, and there are few now, and doubt I will ever trust the US Corporate Media again until we return to some basic standards that, for one thing.

The Guardian eg, doesn't ask for money, but if they did, I would most likely pay them. I subscribed to Al Jazeera starting during the Bush years but stopped when they appeared to have been compromised during the Libya invasion.

People want the facts and they will go look for them if they cannot find them here. The US Media has lost credibility around the world, when at one time CNN eg, was a respected news organization, until Ted Turner sold it and it turned into Fox Lite.

Ask Hillary Clinton who told Congress that the US 'cannot get its message out anymore due to the proliferation of other News Media. My first thought was 'Message'?? The news is not supposed to be anyone's 'message'. But since our media was bought up by Corporations that is what it has been used for, period. To deliver a 'message' rather than report news. It has failed as she pointed out, thinking if they spent more money it would make a difference. Sad that she didn't understand, money can 'win' in the sense they can buy up everything, but they can't sell propaganda to people who are looking for facts.

7. That's because 'theguardian.com' went live on July 30th
Sat Nov 16, 2013, 05:50 PM

so it had 2 days in July, and then a full month in August. This is actually explained at the compete.com site that 'StoryLeak' links to, but StoryLeak couldn't understand that. Their site used to be 'guardian.co.uk'.

TheGuardian.com saw explosive growth in August as the popular online newspaper moved from Guardian.co.uk on July 30 to TheGuardian.com. Comparing TheGuardian.com in August to Guardian.co.uk over the recent months also shows that the news outlet had their best month for unique visitors (UVs) in two years.

https://blog.compete.com/2013/09/09/august-2013-competitive-data-live-compete/

So they had 12 times the traffic of those 2 July days in August - about what you'd expect. and 672 times the traffic of the previous year - but you should divide that by about 183, because it had only been going for 2/365 of a year. That could still be good growth, but you need to get the figures back into the realms of reality.

To request they publish an edition of their paper in the U.S. I looked into ordering it from the UK to sell here, but the terms made it too expensive for a small book dealer to be able to do.

Back then, tho, I used to read the Guardian every day and would read about events that others found out about via watered-down versions six months later.

The Jessica Lynch story was especially memorable.

Polls consistently note that the U.S. is more liberal than its politicians.

It's also, therefore, more liberal than its media, it seems.
