Today, I am turning 65 years old.
Looking back over the past 10 years, our presidential campaign was really a movement. It was the first political opportunity for the first global generation, to begin their take over of the political process. And it wasn't just about young people, a lot of people around my age, who had given up on politics finally found a reason to get involved again.
Democracy for America has continued the movement to take our country back to the values of inclusivity, fairness and justice that we worked so hard for in the 1960s and that our children fight for now.
Since 2003, we have fought side by side for transformative progress, from ending the war in Iraq and universal health care to marriage equality and a womans right to choose.
Along the way, you have also fueled DFA's mission to elect truly great progressives like Senator Elizabeth Warren, Congressman Keith Ellison, and so many other amazing candidates up and down the ballot in all 50 states.
So, instead of receiving gifts on my 65th birthday, I'm asking people to support DFA as we fight to build a more progressive America. In the spirit of our Dean for America presidential campaign, can you donate $6.50 to DFA today?
As you know, theres still so much work ahead.
Right now, Republicans in Congress are trying to dismantle the Affordable Care Act and cut earned benefits like Social Security and Medicare. Radical right-wingers are in state legislatures across the country trying to restrict the right to vote and take away womens reproductive rights.
But we will continue to fight back -- it's the only way we will win and preserve our version of America. And thanks to the Tea Party's obstructionism, Democrats have a real opportunity to win back the House in 2014.
People power is what has driven DFA for nearly ten years. On my 65th birthday, will you make a contribution of $6.50 today?
Again and always, thank you for all you are doing,
Howard
