WASHINGTON -- In September, Rep. Trey Radel voted for Republican legislation that would allow states to make food stamp recipients pee in cups to prove they're not on drugs. In October, police busted the Florida Republican on a charge of cocaine possession.
Its really interesting it came on the heels of Republicans voting on everyone who had access to food stamps get drug tested," House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) told BuzzFeed Tuesday. "Its like, what?
The House over the summer approved an amendment by Rep. Richard Hudson (R-N.C.) that would let states drug test people on food stamps. The amendment passed by voice vote, meaning members' individual yeas and nays were not recorded. Radel later voted in favor of a broader food stamps bill that included Hudson's measure.
In support of his drug testing legislation, Hudson cited the many state legislatures around the country that had considered similar requirements for other means-tested programs in recent years.

(27,461 posts)now that Pelosi has made GOP hypocrisy an issue, it should get picked up widely. It's newsworthy that the Democratic leader would say such a thing. But so far only Buzzfeed is reporting it.

(11,495 posts)Random drug testing should become mandatory for all members of congress. If they pee in the cup and it's positive for drugs, they should lose their jobs. After the House running around smelling of booze while the shutdown the country, they should also have random alcohol testing and any member found drinking while on the job should also be punished in some way, say a fine the first time, and more sever punishment for a second offense. Any offense after a second warning should included treatment at a substance abuse facility, and no pay while in treatment.
Just my 2 cents worth here.

Yes, for these hypocritical assholes, it's always a "struggle" but they would kick someone less fortunate into the street and deny them food.
