prominently in their "new books" display. One was "Leading from behind", can't recall what the other was right now. I know these were probably donated by RWers, so they probably didn't cost taxpayers any money -- but still --
then I noticed that there were *two* sections for new books -- one marked "new fiction", where both books were shelved.
Proof once again that librarians are the nicest people in the world.

(149,523 posts)Maybe those librarians have to accept those books...
But they know where to put them!

Bad fiction at that.

(90 posts)At our library's Political Science section we have books from all over the spectrum.
The bookstore is the same way, too. A non-event to me.
Nobody's putting a gun to anyone's head to read books they don't agree with.

(6,151 posts)But the librarian isn't one of them. I like her a lot, and most of her assistants also. Over almost 8 years there've only been two who were hateful. They'd smile at me okay, but with such hate in their eyes and venom in their voices that I felt like I was in church.
Almost sorry for saying that. Just because some people are unbearable doesn't mean most are.
Personally, I'd be willing to bet it's the influence of all those books seeping into people whether read or not. A library's simply one of the most civilizing influences on earth, even if they're not particularly well funded or operated.
Gotta be those books.
