TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -
Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents seized more than $3 million worth of marijuana in a five-day span.
Officials said the 6,937 pounds of confiscated drugs in separate incidents were quickly turned over to authorities and one suspect was arrested.
The first seizure occurred Friday in Paradise Valley when agents assigned to the West Desert Task Force recovered 1,029 pounds of marijuana near an abandoned GMC Yukon. No suspects were found.
Saturday at the Highway 80 checkpoint, agents arrested a U.S. citizen who attempted to smuggle nearly 18 pounds of marijuana concealed inside the rear cab wall of a black Chevrolet truck. Hours later, Tucson Sector agents discovered 37 bundles of marijuana, weighing more than 1,800 pounds, on the Tohono O'odham Nation, near the village of Menagers.
