Kittens die from illness after being thrown onto freeway in Davis County

The two kittens who survived being thrown from a moving truck in Davis County have died.

The kittens, named Pierre and Nikola, succumbed to feline panleukopenia virus, commonly known as distemper, according to foster organization CAWS director Janita Coombs. Pierre, the orange kitten, died Nov. 5 and Nikola, the black kitten, died a day later. Both cats were in the care of a CAWS foster home when they began showing symptoms and were taken to a veterinarian.

Coombs said the kittens contracted the illness before they were taken into foster care, though the stress of being thrown onto the freeway could have exacerbated their condition. She also said the kittens were in poor health when they came to authorities and likely had not been properly cared for.

"They most likely never received any type of vaccination," Coombs said. "Even though they were cute and fluffy, they were very thin."

There are rescue groups almost everywhere so unwanted pets can be dropped off. In_The_Wind Nov 2013 #1
And better still, spay and neuter all cats and dogs-- automatically, no exceptions! NYC_SKP Nov 2013 #2

So many preventable deaths for neglecting such a simple procedure.

When I was young, many in the neighborhood had a dog chained for life to a dog house. Being from rural WI, I personally found two gunny sacks with a litter of rotting dead kittens in them and one with puppies-along one road in two years. I soon knew better to not be too curious.
Farmers would just shove them in a sack with a brick and toss them in the river. Done.
This is not done much now.
I still know a few people who would and do do this.
It is a GOOD sign that this can evoke disgust. I am only 39 by the way. Not so long ago. . .

Always have and always will. I am glad we have advanced some. But if anyone ever takes out some piece of shit for throwing kittens out a car or puppies in the river I want on their jury so I can hang it.

If a person got so upset at another for doing the unthinkable act of throwing out animals, that they then decided to kill that person-the person-killer did the more detestable act and would be a danger to us all and should be held to account, I think.
Animals have been disposable to some for a long time.

Our laws are next to useless when it comes to animal abuse so I would have great sympathy for someone getting vengeance.

There was always some horrible story about screaming children and drunk dad and "ahhhhh I'm puttin' em in a gunny sack and taking them to the river".

It's like an archetype from my early childhood.

Someone had tossed them out near our rural home. Earlier in the day, my father must have found a dead sibling on the highway itself.

It was the cutest thing (all the kitty rescues I have done, I have never had this happen...)... they literally ran into my arms when I called them. I am 100% sure I saved them from either the highway, starvation, or predation by coyote, bobcat, or raptor.

They are extremely cute and friendly cats...

Mr. Walter is the white one and Mr. Jesse is the tan/orange one.

But have zero use for any human who would harm them. I'd just as soon the be in hell, immediately.
