I was thinking about history, electronic devices, and the NSA this morning.

Suppose someone would have told you 40 years ago that the government could and would
keep tabs on you at all hours, on demand, using elaborate personal electronic devices and
networks to support them.

I am willing to bet that people back then would assume that the government would have to FORCE these
personal electronic devices on people, rather than the alternative, that people would
gladly stand in line and pay hundreds of dollars for them.

Just a thought.

If you told people 40 years ago that there would be these elaborate personal electronic devices that one could use to stay in contact via mail or telephone with anyone in the world. Look up any information that one could have a question on. Share photos, videos, or writings, etc... all at the push of a button. A device that could also be used to navigate without needing paper maps, find any point of interest, or even where to eat, sleep or visit.

People would have thought, hey that's pretty damn cool, I'd pay a couple hundred bucks for something like that.

The whole keeping tabs thing was in the super-fine print.
