Nude Dancing At Clubs Not In Line With “Pure Michigan” Theme Says Michigan Senator

LANSING (WWJ) – Michigan Senator Rick Jones is introducing legislation that would bar nude dancing at alcohol-serving bars and clubs. This follows a naked performance by dancers at a Lansing gay bar.

Jones says having places that have nude dancing is against the whole “Pure Michigan” theme.

“We spend millions of dollars saying this is pure Michigan – where you should bring your family for vacation. Not Michigan with nudie bars,” said Jones.

“I don’t want these popping up on every corner,” said Jones. “I think it could happen to every city if we don’t put a stop to it.”

“There’s a bar in Lansing that found a little loophole in the law and started it,” he said. ” So I’m working with the attorney general to craft legislation that is constitutional to take care of this problem. Now I don’t believe that the founding fathers – when they were talking about freedom of speech meant nude dancing in bars.”

Last year a Federal judge ruled that Michigan’s liquor control laws related to nudity were unconstitutional because it violated First Amendment rights.

This guy may want to look up the definition of "Bawdy Houses". They not only operated openly and within the bounds of the law in the mid 1700's, but they were present in every major colonial city from New England to the Atlanta. Heck, Philadelphia...the spiritual "home" where America itself was founded, was known as "Sin City" long before Vegas was a glimmer in the mobs eye, primarily because it had so many bawdy houses and brothels.

You could find naked women in any of them.

... that seeks to draw visitors.

There is, as yet, no requirement that all tourists have to visit any club with nude dancing.

If Senator Rick Jones did not appreciate the dancers at the gay bar in Lansing, he doesn't have to go there again. Unless, of course, his campaign contributors take him there. Then he has no choice.

He's right, the founding fathers never thought about nude bars in Michigan. They probably never thought about Michigan at all, except that there was a vast unknown wilderness west of Pennsylvania.

I admit nudie bars and strip joints are a blight on a neighborhood and should be limited
but they are real easy to stay out of ..... BTW now just how did Michigan Senator Rick Jones
find this gay bar with nude dancing?

preoccupied with other peoples sexual activities, relationships and the like. Some, judge an entire persons being on their sex and/or sexual orientation. I find it quite bizarre, they are fixated on the 7th grade playground. For others, I think it's another form of bullying, and for others, they just have to have someone/group to hate.

Often in my unscientific observations, it often seems those most vocal have some real sexual identify problems, so they have to strike out to calm their internal insecurities.

As I've told some, often it does not matter who you are, what you do, etc., about 50% of the world is going to hate you for some nefarious reason.

With the governor appointing City Managers to fleece the taxpayers of property that belongs to them, paid for with taxpayer money.

But let's ignore that, let's focus on the nude dancing at bars, that's truly offensive.
