I finally switched channels. I remember the assassination well, as I was 24 at the time. The first time I ever voted was when I turned 21 and I voted for JFK.

hard to put into words. This is why Walter Cronkite was like the member of our families.

Modern journalists could learn a thing or two from this broadcast.

It is 50 years later, and I am mesmerized by this coverage.

I give a lot of credit to CBS for the work they did then, and also appreciate them webcasting these 4 days as they happened. I have it on right now.

By that logic, any retrospectives of other historic events are "morbid." It is very hard to watch, especially the funeral procession.

One of the dumbest comments was by "journalist" Karen Tumulty, who thought the webcasting was "creepy" or something.

She's the same age as I am, but she was probably playing with her Barbie dolls during those four days.

She probably still is.

There were real journalists then, although few women were in the field at that time. They didn't tell you what to think and simply reported what was going on.

The main exception to that during this broadcast was Harry Reasoner excoriating people for being upset their usual programming was interrupted for coverage of this national tragedy.

for posting this.

It's fascinating to see the story unfold "in real time," and also sobering to see how TV news "reporting" has deteriorated over the years. One shudders to think how the networks--and cable--would handle a story like this, should it--God forbid--happen today.

Thanks again, and best wishes.
