Nike Kicks Off Marriage Campaign With $280K

One of Oregon's biggest companies has announced the formation of a new political action committee.

Sports apparel giant Nike has announced the formation of a political action committee solely dedicated to establishing marriage equality in Oregon.

Nike Equality PAC was formed with a $180,000 donation from executives and $100,000 from the company itself, The Oregonian reports. The PAC will work in conjunction with Oregon United for Marriage, an arm of the statewide LGBT rights organization Basic Rights Oregon.

"For Oregon businesses to attract and retain the best talent, we need fair and equitable laws that treat all Oregonians equally and prevent discrimination," Nike officials said on the PAC's website.

The PAC site notes that Nike was one of the first companies to extend benefits to same-sex partners of employees, nearly 20 years ago. Nike also supported marriage equality efforts in the neighboring state of Washington and the federal Employment Non-Discrimination Act, and was a signer of the amicus brief filed by dozens of companies in support of Edie Windsor's challenge to the so-called Defense of Marriage Act.

I hope they come up with something better; more tastefully done.

The colors seem better on this pair but...I dunno. I'd have to see them. Maybe I don't care for the style of either one.

The problem is probably with me and not with the shoes.

...the colors need to say 'pride' and not 'clown'.

Here's a hand painted pair of pride shoes that I might wear on Gay Pride Day:

Someone is selling them on Etsy for $18. The price is right! I actually like these.

If Nike wants to sell to anyone besides gay people on pride day, they need to choose a more contemporary style of Nike and use some actual design skill when applying the rainbow colors.

I might just have to get me a pair. I've been running races most of this year ( I medaled in 6 out of 11 races - 1 bronze, 4 silvers, 1 gold) and although I'm a New Balance fan, I really like the look of those!

I live in a small town so a trip to any shoe store with these designs is about 45-50 miles away unless I order them online.

Some classic Toms with the side panel done in rainbow.

I just like something a little more subtle. Regardless, I appreciate the move by Nike.
