I can't help thinking of an old photo of me in Vietnam on Thanksgiving Day 1969. I'm front and center, shown together with the other officers of my Army Infantry company. We all had families waiting and worrying at home. The reason I'm posting the photo is because the cartoon puts another light on something...two of the guys in the photo that Thanksgiving never made it home to their families alive...

R.I.P. Russ Shields (left rear) and Mark Rivest (left front).

It is so important that we remember.

My brother went to Vietnam too, and he came home without injury. It was the longest year of my life, that year he was there...

You were a handsome lad! As were your friends...And now I too grieve for the two pictured above, who didn't come home to their families...

I'm so glad you told me about them.

I new dozens of guys who didn't make it. And knowing how much their loss hurts me, even after all these years, it's hard to even contemplate how their families were--and are still--affected.

And here's another Thanksgiving with families waiting, and worrying, and hoping that their loved one returns safe and whole--or if not whole, at least alive...

Some of us around here are delicate flowers.

Okay, it was hard typing that with a straight face.
