-snip-
6. There were disturbing items found in the shooters room, including three photographs of a dead human covered in blood, and photocopied newspaper articles from 1891 about a school shooting involving children.
10. Before the shooter left for Sandy Hook, he significantly damaged his hard drive. Forensic experts still cannot recover any information from it. Should information be obtained from the hard drive, the case will be reopened.
11. Some digital evidence was seized, however, including images of Lanza holding a gun to his head, videos of him playing Dance Dance Revolution, and video dramatizations of children being shot.
17. He liked building computers, playing video games and the saxophone, writing poetry, and hiking, according to the report. Shooting was considered a family pastime, and Nancy and Adam Lanza both took NRA safety courses.

(55,445 posts)Didn't she take him to the shooting range?
HooptieWagon
(17,064 posts)Yes, she took him to a shooting range. It was reported at the time of shooting that there was a gun safe at the house. What hasn't been reported is whether Lanza had regular access to the gun safe, how he accessed the gun safe if he didn't have regular access, whether "his" gun was kept in the gun safe, or if "his" gun was involved in the shooting.
Recursion
(56,582 posts)Unless the reportage is deliberately badly written, it looks like she substantively bought him one, even if she technically was the purchaser.
HooptieWagon
(17,064 posts)or even if he used it in the shooting. And I don't know how (or if) the mother had the guns secured. It's possible she kept "his" gun locked up with hers....I haven't seen any information regarding that. It was reported at the time there was a gun safe in the house, but not how Lanza accessed it.
Recursion
(56,582 posts)They're usually .38 (a fairly "light" pistol), and usually fairly cheap.
Whether that's the handgun he took with him or not, no idea...
HooptieWagon
(17,064 posts)Thats not a light handgun, its pretty powerful. Most all PDs have switched from their old .38 Special revolvers to 9mm semi-autos for greater firepower and easier re-loading. .22s and .32s are considered light handguns. .38 is about average, .38 Spl a little more powerful, and 9mm a bit more powerful yet.
Recursion
(56,582 posts)But, yeah, it is probably on the heavy side of pistols in general.
HooptieWagon
(17,064 posts)A 9mm is a lot lighter and smaller, but is still pretty powerful.
HooptieWagon
(17,064 posts)shows that a CZ 83 is a 9mm military surplus handgun imported from the Czech Republic.
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/CZ_82
I don't recall any of the victims being shot with a handgun, I think they were all shot with the .223 semi-automatic rifle. He may have killed himself with the handgun, I don't know. And, IIRC, he shot his mother with a .22, which wouldn't have been the 9mm handgun.
Recursion
(56,582 posts)Which as far as I can read from this is a factual statement.
HooptieWagon
(17,064 posts)Lanza was too young to own a handgun under CT law. The mother registered the gun (singular, not plural) she "bought" him in her name, so technically speaking it was legally her gun.
And regardless of that, the gun wasn't used in the shooting. The gun his mother "bought" him was a CZ 83 handgun. The victims were all shot with a .223 rifle. Lanza killed himself with a Glock handgun. On his person was SIG handgun, which apparently was not fired, and in the trunk of his mother's car was a shotgun. Those 4 guns are the only weapons mentioned in the police report.
kcr
(15,315 posts)She bought him the guns. It's right there in the report.
HooptieWagon
(17,064 posts)She "bought" him A gun....which apparently wasn't used in the shooting. The gun she bought him (he technically wasn't old enough to own a handgun under CT law) was a CZ 83 9mm handgun. The victims were all shot with a .223 rifle. Lanza killed himself with a 10mm Glock. On his person was also a 9mm SIG handgun, which apparently wasn't fired. In the trunk of his mother's car was a shotgun, also not used.
So, he didn't even have "his" handgun in his possession during the shooting.
kcr
(15,315 posts)You are simply incorrect. I have no idea why you feel the need to give the impression he stole guns from her. It's false.
HooptieWagon
(17,064 posts)therefore he stole them. And her car. The gun (singular, not plural) she" bought" him, he wasn't legally allowed to own in CT, therefore it was registered in her name. We can split hairs over whether it was his gun, but legally she owned it. This gun was not involved in the shooting. All the guns involved in the shooting were the mother's.
kcr
(15,315 posts)Your nitpicking semantics doesn't change the fact he had the car and guns with her blessing. It's very clear from the report.
HooptieWagon
(17,064 posts)Did he also shoot her "with her blessing" before stealing her car and guns, "with her blessing"?
How the fuck can you interpret murdering her and stealing her guns and car to mean he had her blessing? Thats just pathetic lying.
kcr
(15,315 posts)you just want to twist words. Because you seem more than intelligent enough to be able to read well enough to comprehend that that is not at all what I said. Please.
HooptieWagon
(17,064 posts)how murdering his mother and stealing her guns and car equates to "having her blessing"?

(17,064 posts)"Hey mom, I'm taking your car and guns and 400 rounds of ammunition to go on a killing spree"..
"Okay, dear, have a nice day. Please be home by dinner".
REALLY? Thats just idiocy.
kcr
(15,315 posts)HooptieWagon
(17,064 posts)And he then murdered her anyway. Thats just stupid.
kcr
(15,315 posts)The report also says it cannot determine why he did it. I don't know why you're asking me.
kcr
(15,315 posts)His acts were horrific. We'll probably never know why he did it.
HooptieWagon
(17,064 posts)...with her "blessing", then why did he kill her? What, she didn't give him her ATM card too? It is beyond ludicrous to claim, as you are, that his mother willing gave him her car and guns to go murder 26 people at an elementary school. While she bears some blame for not securing her guns better, and for perhaps not getting her son mental help he needed, to claim she just gave her car and guns to him is seriously sick and twisted.
kcr
(15,315 posts)That is your twisted wording. I have no idea why you started with that nonsense.

(38,613 posts)It says:
On the day of the shooting, several Newtown residents received voice messages all from out of state saying, I am Adam Lanza and I am going to kill you.
Page 43 of the document says:
Numerous citizens in Newtown received calls on their telephones with messages left saying I am [the shooters name] and I am going to kill you. It was determined that these calls were made from out of state and the investigation is ongoing. Preliminary investigation results establish that the callers were not associated with the shooter.
