I was so certain that they were going to throw in some last minute resurrection by Stewie or something similar for continuity's sake, but alas. I really hope he's not gone for good. He was my favorite character on the show.

I think they are spoofing the Walking Dead and some of these other modern shows that keep killing fan favorites off!

HEY this is as big as when someone shot J.R.! Remember those days!? WHO SHOT J.R.!?

Brian will be back, it is a cartoon after all.

(Spoiler alert here, too)

In the Venture Brothers, they killed off not only Race Bannon from Johnny Quest (he was a best buddy to Brock) but also one of the two "beloved" henchmen (#24) of the Monarch's.

We don't know much about Bannon's Intelligence background to begin with. The Venture Brothers just made that connection, possibly because the show is a parody of Jonny Quest.

Here's the character-blurb from Wikipedia:

Roger T. "Race" Bannon is a special agent, bodyguard, and pilot from Intelligence One. Governmental fears that Jonny could "fall into the wrong hands" resulted in Bannon's assignment to guard and tutor him.[9] Race was born in Wilmette, Illinois, to John and Sarah Bannon.[10] He is an expert in judo, having a third-degree black belt as well as the ability to defeat noted experts in various martial arts, including sumo wrestlers. The character was voiced by Mike Road, with his design modeled on actor Jeff Chandler.[11] The name is a combination of Race Dunhill and Stretch Bannon from an earlier Doug Wildey comic strip.[2] The surname Bannon is Irish (from 'O'Banain') meaning "white".[12][13]

The point is to make it so the reader does not know Brian is gone/dead without reading spoiler alert and then clicking on the post.

Seth MacFarlane didnt kill off, Brian to be hard hitting, or arty or too move the show forward.

He did it, just to be mean, plain and simple.

Methinks this was sabotage to get people to stop liking it so his fans will let him finally end the series like he wants to.

But yeah...Brian will be back.
