Credentials
From the no shit file:
Appearing yesterday on Newsmax TVs The Steve Malzberg Show, Mark HalperinTime Magazines senior political analyst and regular guest on MSNBCs Morning Joe (except for when he is being suspended from the program for calling the President of the United States a d**k)pronounced;
The Affordable Care Act contains provisions for death panels, which decide which critically ill patients receive care and which dont. Its built into the plan. Its not like a guess or like a judgment. Thats going to be part of how costs are controlled.
Really, Mark?
That is quite a pronouncement without so much as bothering to provide thinking Americans with a reference to where they can find this deeply upsetting language in the Affordable Care Act.
I, for one, would have been most appreciative to be provided with such a citation given that Ive read the entire law seven times and have yet to come across any provision that states how critically ill patients willor will nothave their fate determined by their government, despite Halperins announcement that these death panels are the means in which health care costs are going to be controlled in the future.

MSNBC on Thursday suspended indefinitely Mark Halperin from his role as an analyst on the network, hours after the Time Editor-at-Large called President Obama "a dick" on live television.

(18,219 posts)but when an OP is posted, and shows an excerpt from an article (with the link included so you can read the entire article and see who wrote it), that means that the OP poster is NOT the writer of the piece. So, in answer to your question, cali did not say that she/he read the ACA seven times.
I don't know why I bother but maybe someone will understand this.

I have no problem calling cops and other first responders heroes. Small and large everyday the are.
I do have a problem with them calling themselves heroes, specifically the chief of the Capitol Police who while refusing to answer any legitimate questions about the shooting, repeatedly praised the dozens of officers as heroic.
I think we the people retain that duty and designate it when earned.
Is it just me?

Thinkingabout
(30,058 posts)was passed so if you read the "law" seven times and did not see the death panels in it is because it is not there. I would have thought Mark Halperin would have checked his information better and could have reported this was not a part of the law. The death panel should put this misinformation to death to never live another day.

(261 posts)The portion of the bill that all the right wingers were screaming was about death panel and was eventually dropped.
In reality it just spelled out how people seeking professional advice regarding wills, advanced directives and other such issues had the OPTION of having it paid for (I think through Medicare) rather than out of their of pocket.
It was a great example of completely distorting the facts, giving it a scary name and getting a large portion of the public (who didn't bother to check it out) to go against their own best interest.
There is a death panel, it's called the republican caucus.

(7,321 posts)His so called "reporting" has always, always, always been, shall I say "lacking" (just to be nice), he's usually called upon to give the Neo-Con Analysis on political matters, always under the guise of "Reporter" never have I seen him specifically identified with a Neo-Con think tank, but that's his real affiliation which seems to be fairly obvious, at least to me.

(3,811 posts)to the provisions in Section 3021 - Establishment of Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation within CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services). See page 271 of the PPACA, Public Law 111-148.
Section 3021 establishes a new group within the CMS to look at issues related to improving the quality and reducing the cost of care provided to patients in the two programs.
It's certainly not a "death panel". That's a wildly irresponsible claim.

(8,434 posts)Insurance companies were death panels.
Now the ACA has reigned them in slightly so they can't kill grandma or the grand kids quite so easily.

(65 posts)Those levels can be overruled by Congress at any time.
The IPAC is no different than the many, many advisory boards at private health insurance companies that set reimbursement levels for contracted providers. Only those private boards also determine what coverage will be permitted and what will not.

(6,994 posts)set by the RNC..For the less informed voters, all they have to do is hear this once and it then becomes part of their analysis of the ACA.
Younger voters especially would not take the time to read this article or check the facts. They would jut go on repeating this others and this is type of a strategy the RNC will put forth because of they realize some voters will not research the facts.
This article being in Forbes surprises me but I would be curious how many of their right wing subscribers will actually read the article knowing the content is favoring the ACA
Halperin should be fired...but he wont be..But let an MSNBC evening host make a statement that is factual and they are forced to apologize

(82,383 posts)the best they can do is a provision about counseling people to have living wills. Most people I've met are for having those (I don't want to be in a permanent coma, etc.). Yet the M$M will never get into that. Educating people in the minimum is not in their job description.
There is an actual statute, it can be read online or in any law library. If it's not in that statute, it doesn't exist.
